For 30 years Hollister Pregnancy Center has been serving the women of San Benito County. Privately funded, the 501c3 nonprofit organization has operated through the generosity of the community, as well as private businesses and organizations. A Licensed Medical Clinic, Hollister Pregnancy Center offers 100% free of charge services to the women and men of San Benito and surrounding counties; services include Pregnancy Testing, Limited Obstetric Ultrasound, STI testing, RU486 Reversal treatment, and infant practical needs assistance.
Providing free of charge STI testing has positioned the pregnancy center as a valuable resource in San Benito County for HIV testing. The Sixteen Project was created to give our residents and teenagers a safe and confidential environment to receive these services. It is reported that one out of every four teens will contract a sexually transmitted infection. This shocking statistic was one motivating factor for developing the Sixteen Project.
Part of The Community Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for San Benito County residents through supporting non-profit efforts. Through the generosity of the Foundation, a $5,000 grant was awarded to the Sixteen Project. In addition to STI testing the project also provides clients with peer-counseling in sexual heath, wellness and education. As local government funding decreases it is non-profits such as Hollister Pregnancy Center that are providing our residents vital services to promote health. Brigette Blair, Executive Director of the Pregnancy Center says, “It is a joy meeting the community through the services we offer. Through options and prevention education we have opportunities to have candid conversations in a comfortable and welcoming environment.”
When a client receives life altering news, Hollister Pregnancy Center connects the clients to other service and county organizations which help the client along their path to health and wholeness for themselves and their families. Helping clients see into their future, and how today’s choices impact that future, is one of the ways the pregnancy center is unique when meeting their client’s needs.
