According to the California Highway Patrol, at about 8 a.m., the unidentified 20-year-old, was driving a 1996 Ford Explorer southbound on Highway 101, south of Buena Vista Avenue. Three other passengers were traveling in the Explorer including a 19-year-old and two 20-year-olds all from Hollister, said CHP.

The report stated that the Hollister woman was driving at a high rate of speed behind a 2017 Hyundai Elantra belonging to Thomas Pavsek, 67, of San Jose who was driving the speed limit of 65 mph.

The 20-year-old driver tried to avoid a collision with Pavsek by hitting the brakes but was unsuccessful causing her to exit the roadway and veering down an embankment. The car rolled over, ejecting the driver and she was pronounced dead at 8:20 a.m., the CHP reported.
