Information provided by the Hollister Police Department.
The Hollister Police Department (HPD) is expected to increase patrols in an effort to reduce dangerous driving around school zones, a recent press release said. The locations will vary around the school sites within the City of Hollister.
The release notes that: “Hollister Police Department has identified serious traffic issues related to the drop off and pick up of children around the schools. Drivers are speeding, making illegal U-turns, failing to yield to oncoming traffic, parking in undesignated and unsafe areas, among other violations.”
The School Resource Officers and Patrol Officers are expected to conduct saturation patrols at and around the schools, which is expected to be an ongoing focus partially funded through an existing Office of Traffic Safety grant, the release states. A motorcycle officer is also expected to patrol the schools when available.
In the release, HPD remind drivers to follow the rules of the road and that the safety of the children must remain everyone’s prime concern.
