Are you interested in senior issues? Looking for a way to make a difference for the seniors of San Benito Counties? The Seniors Council has several opportunities available to be a voice for seniors in San Benito County!
Seniors Council Board of Directors. The Seniors Council has an overall operating budget of about $3.3 million and operates several programs. It serves as the designated Area Agency on Aging, a planning and funding agency for senior services in Santa Cruz and San Benito County. It operates the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs in Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey and Santa Clara Counties. It operates the In-Kind Donation Program, distributing goods and services to non-profit agencies. It also directly operates Project SCOUT, providing volunteer tax assistance in Santa Cruz County.  Board meetings are held monthly.  There are currently no Board members from San Benito County.  Â

Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council Members. The Area Agency on Aging coordinates, plans and advocates for senior services in Santa Cruz and San Benito Counties. It also distributes more than $1.7 million in state and federal funding to senior programs for services such as information, meals, transportation and family caregiver services. 25% of program funding is dedicated to San Benito County. There are currently vacancies on the Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council for two representatives from San Benito County as well as one from San Juan Bautista. Meetings are generally held monthly.
California Senior Legislature.  Applications are currently being accepted for candidates for the 2014-18 term of the all-volunteer California Senior Legislature.  The Santa Cruz/San Benito County region has one Senior Senator and one Senior Assembly Member. CSL members develop legislative proposals and meet in Sacramento each fall to develop a legislative platform. CSL candidates must be at least 60 years of age. More information about the CSL can be found at www.4csl.org.  Completed CSL candidate’s application packets must be submitted by April 9th.
