Do you ever go to where you left something and it’s not there? Most people think that’s the end of it, it’s done forever. What most students at San Benito High School don’t know is that there is a lost and found on campus in the main office in Student Services B.
Dianna Tranchina is subbing for the front desk in SSB, so if something is lost or found, she is the one that can help students out. If a student loses an item, then they can describe the item to her and she will check to see if it’s in a large bucket labeled “Lost and Found.” If anything is found, students can drop it off to her and she will put it in the bucket.
“The most common thing brought in would have to be sweaters and shirts,” said Tranchina, adding, “I have no idea how someone can lose their clothes.”
The lost and found gets particular notice when the end of each grading period comes around because that is when the office donates whatever is left behind, after giving students one last chance to claim an item by putting an announcement in the bulletin about it. “The first week of school is the worst,” said campus supervisor Lynn Dotson. ’’The students are getting so many books, so they set them down and leave them behind.”
Even though books are one of the most common things turned in, they do not go in the lost and found bin. When books are turned in they immediately are taken to the library, so no one is charged with any book fees if it is never claimed.
Some of the more unique things turned in to the office are skateboards, art projects, and even shorts.
“Make sure you always check the lost and found,” said Dotson.
