The San Benito County 2015 Homeless Census, scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 28 from about 6-10 a.m., is in need of 25 to 40 volunteers.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development requires a Point-in-Time (PIT) count during the last 10 days of January nationwide every two years. Each count results in a “snapshot” of the number of sheltered and unsheltered homelessness on a given night.

"The PIT census is important to our community primarily because it increases community understanding of homelessness; Retain and improve funding for homeless services and meet federal data reporting requirements; generate valid, accurate data regarding homeless individuals and families; and link homeless data collection efforts to strategic, program, and policy planning," Andi Anderson said in a release.
