Longtime educator and local youth advocate Mike Sanchez is off to a super start in 2015, thanks to some love Jan. 20 from the San Benito County Board of Supervisors.

At a public meeting Tuesday, Board Chair Marie Barrios presented a certificate of recognition to Sanchez — her brother — earning praise for his servicesto education and youth in the community over the past 40 years.

“My brother, you are so deserving,” said Barrios. “Momma would be so proud of you.”

The California State Assembly also recognized Sanchez at the board meeting, officially noting his efforts in previous roles ranging from school teacher to county superintendent.

In his acceptance speech, the recently retired superintendent said that in retirement, he hopes to continue serving the community.

Sanchez also vowed that he would never stop being a youth advocate.
