The city of Hollister has approved plans for thousands of new homes to be built. In a county that has become home to nearly 60,000 residents. One community that is being built is called Santana Ranch. By the end of its construction, Hollister should have about 1,000 new homeowners in the county. Anderson Homes will be constructing all the new homes. Fairview Road is expected to become a busier roadway, as the new homes will be built between Sunnyslope and Hillcrest roads.

After the homes in Hollister are built, more kids are going to become residents in the community. That means more students are going to be enrolled into schools. San Benito High School already has about 2,800 students enrolled. With more children that are going to be arriving in this town, some people are raising concerns about the classroom space to accommodate the new residents.

SBHS sophomore Jacob Ito said, “If thousands of new homes are going to be built in Hollister, we are going to need a new high school.”

Math teacher Marco Orozco said, “San Benito High School is a very big school and a new high school would be great.” No plans are in the works for a second campus, officials say, as SBHS is just now getting started on a multi-year renovation project funded by bond proceeds.

Michael Anderson, vice president of sales for Anderson Homes,  told BenitoLink that the company “plans to start model home construction this spring with the first homes available for move-in in the fall. Anderson Homes expects homes on the ranch to individually range from 1,600 to 2,500 square feet, three to five bedrooms, and carry a price of $400,000 or more.”

There will also be parks, an elementary school, and neighborhood commercial areas incorporated into the development. Ten percent of the land will be dedicated to lower-income homes.

The population of Hollister is expected to boom similar to how it did in the 1990s after this and other housing projects are completed.
