The Hollister City Council n June 1 presented a proclamation to the Rotary Club of Hollister, which this year is celebrating its 90th year.
"The Rotary Club of Hollister provides volunteers and resources to local projects and supports local nonprofits," reads the proclamation, which Mayor Ignacio Velazquez presented to Rotary President Robert Freiri and President-Elect Cathy Buck. The proclamation notes how the Rotary supports local youth through scholarships through the Interact Club at San Benito High School, hosts an annual speech contest, and sponsors an international youth exchange.
The Rotary Club, which has about 70 members locally, was also recognized for its funding and assistance for international projects such as polio vaccinations, the construction of new schools, clean water projects, medical equipment and supplies, computers and educational supplies for classrooms.
In the proclamation, Velazquez congratulated the service club for its 90th anniversary and wished the club "continued success in its various programs to enhance our community."
