On June 2, the Hollister Police Department held a small ceremony at the police department to swear in the newest member of the department, K-9 Officer Freeze, a Belgian Malinois.
The dog and the handler, Officer David Anderson, have been in training for more than a month with dog trainer Luther Evans at Evolution Dog Training Center. On Tuesday, both K-9 Handler Officer Anderson and Officer Freeze successfully completed a certification course.
Retired City Clerk, Geri Johnson, delivered the oath of office which included in part…”I promise to serve and protect the residents of Hollister and protect my human Officer David Anderson…”
After the oath of office, Freeze received his own police badge with his own unique badge number, K9-1.
Freeze was donated to the Hollister Police Department by Wonder Woofs earlier this year. The department used grant funds to pay for the training and the K-9 equipment needed for the patrol car. Emergency Vehicle Specialist (EVS) also donated the labor involved in installing the equipment in the K-9 patrol vehicle.
Officer Anderson and Freeze are scheduled to begin patrolling together later this week.
