Arrests for public intoxication, weapons and warrants highlighted the bulk of the bookings inside of the event area during the Hollister Freedom Rally during the Fourth of July weekend, according to statistics released by the Hollister Police Department on July 7. Calls for service during the rally weekend jumped 212 percent, according to the department.
No crimes, incidents, events were reported after midnight during the rally in the event area, all weekend, said Police Chief David Westrick, likely a reference to the city’s ban on alcohol sales downtown after midnight.Â
This year, the Hollister Police Department utilized Traffic Safety Grant funding to fund three officers for traffic enforcement outside of the event area, citywide. The result of this enforcement effort was 86 traffic safety citations and 10 DUI arrests, police said.
The Hollister Police Department responded to 891 calls for service over the weekend. By comparison, the department responded to 184 calls for service on the previous, non-holiday weekend. In 2014, Hollister Police Department responded to 420 calls for service over the rally weekend.Â
