
A Â fire on Cienega Road and Limekiln Road, southwest of Hollister, has reached 300 acres Tuesday morning, CalFire reported. Smoke continued to billow from the scene and the plume blanketed the Gabilan mountain range east of Hollister.
Dubbed the Cienega Fire by CalFire, it was reported around 4 p.m. on Oct. 12 and quickly grew to 75 acres and spread to 200 acres by that evening. Crews from throughout the county responded to the blaze on the ground, and CalFire planes from the Air Attack Base at the Hollister Airport made repeated trips to drop fire retardant on the blaze.
Jonathan Pangburn, a public information officer for CalFire San Benito/Monterey unit, told BenitoLink on Monday evening that there were no injuries as a result of the blaze and that “no structures were damaged, destroyed or threatened” as of 7:30 p.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The amount of fire personnel on scene had doubled overnight, reaching 256 people by Tuesday morning, and the amount of fire engines more than tripled to 26. Eight fire crews, four bulldozers, two water tenders and two helicopters were assigned to the blaze,
