The Hollister Police Department was awarded the National Law Enforcement Challenge Award in Motorcycle Traffic Safety during an Oct. 27 ceremony at the International Association of Chiefs of Police  IACP Conference in Chicago.

"To my knowledge our/your police department has never received recognition for its work on this level (which is frankly, the very highest that there is in the world)," Police Chief David Westrick posted on his Facebook page Tuesday. "You should be very proud of your police officers, your police department and your city. This is an award for all of us in Hollister."

Westrick, who had hinted about the award at last week's Hollister City Council meeting, offered special thanks to Lieutanant Eric Olson and Jack Cochii "for preparing and coordinating our police department's traffic safety efforts. Additionally I would like to thank our officers and staff who worked long dedicated hours and really made this program the success that we are being recognized for today."

Westrick said he was brining the award back to Hollister on Wednesday morning.
