The 19th Annual Latino Student Leadership Conference held on Oct. 24 at San Benito High School was attended by more than 100 students and parents, including SBHS alumni, students from the high school and its feeder schools, collegiate members of LULAC (League of United Latin American Citizens), emcee Mike Sanchez and Hollister Mayor Ignacio Velazquez.

In the morning session, motivational  workshops were held by notable role models including Jim Caffiero, Cesar Flores, Deputy Sheriff Tellez, and Francisco Diaz from the County Elections Office. We were also honored by Carol Russo from the Department of Justice, as she held a session with the LULAC young adults.

Mayor Velazquez gave encouragement to the students and praised them for being in attendance on a Saturday. Students responded well and requested a male student conference for sometime next year,  as some felt left out and wanted to be included and informed on possibilities.

Carlos Rodriguez with the Hollister Police Department and Sheriff Deputy Telles and the Sheriff Department’s student Explorers presented a workshop on law enforcement. Adelante students and parents deserve credit for helping with the setup and the wonderful breakfast feast.

BenitoLink representatives Leslie David and Rohit Sharma arrived for the afternoon session bearing gifts for all the students who took part in the challenge session in the afternoon. Thanks to BenitoLink for your presence.
