The holiday season is now upon us and Emmaus House is blessed to be one of the six essential needs nonprofit organizations in San Benito County chosen as a “matching funds” recipient, during the 2015 12 Days of Giving campaign.  The Non-Profits include: CASA of San Benito County, Chamberlain’s Children’s Center, Community Food Bank for San Benito County, Emmaus House, Homeless Coalition of San Benito County, The Salvation Army.

Emmaus House is San Benito County’s only emergency shelter for women and their children seeking refuse from abuse.  Since opening in October 2006 it has housed 1,300 women and children. As a 24-hour, seven-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year operation, we arecontinually seeking operational funding.  As we near the end of October – Domestic Violence Awareness Month – our needs are  great. In United States, an average of 20 people are physically abused by intimate partners every minute.  Every nine seconds in the U.S., a woman is assaulted or beaten. On a typical day, domestic violence hotlines nationwide receive approximately 20,800 calls.

Your contributions help to give our sheltered families the much needed daily necessities. However, in addition to that imagine being displaced from your home and wondering where you are going to get your children a holiday gift and holiday dinner? The 12 Days of Giving is that answer.  Your contributions give a Mom and her children, celebration, comfort, smiles, and a sense of normalcy.

Now through Saturday, Nov. 28th’s Lights On Holiday Celebration, we will be collecting donations. The monetary donations have a wonderful opportunity to be matched! The Community Foundation for San Benito County, United Way of San Benito County, Tiffany Ford Motor Company, Earthbound Farm, Teknova, True Leaf, the Hollister Rotary, Recology, Greenwood Chevrolet and Corbin are all matching fund sponsors this year.

Should you wish to donate to Emmaus House this holiday season, please consider our matching funds opportunity. Funds can be mailed, delivered to the Emmaus House office,  dropped off at the shelter or Community Foundation building.

Have a blessed holiday season and thank you for your continued support of Emmaus House.
