Small Steps Holiday Shopping Event

SMALL STEPS is a local, non-profit organization which, for nineteen years, has put on an event benefitting local children on a Saturday in November. Our mission is to provide warm winter jackets and shoes for up to 375 deserving children in San Benito County who have been identified by their teachers.

This year our shopping trip is on November 5, 2016. Target and Payless Shoe Source open their doors to the children, escorted by volunteers, at 7:00 a.m. These stores generously give a discount for all Small Steps purchases. Each child is accompanied by a volunteer who is 18 years or older. Each volunteer is provided an envelope with up to $100.00 to spend, primarily on shoes and a warm jacket. With our goal of up to 375 children, a minimum of 400 volunteers are needed on the day of the event. The volunteers must sign up in advance and their names, addresses, and driver’s license numbers are compared to the Megan’s Law list. Thumbprints and photos of all volunteers are taken on the day of the event. We are asking the people of our community, businesses, churches and organizations for help.
