Spring is in the air and it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get to those spring cleaning-type activities that garner such beautiful results with a little hard work. If you just can’t bring yourself to tackle your own yard or home but would like to do a little something to brighten our community – come join us for our Annual Downtown Spring Clean-up on Saturday, April 16 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Bring your cleaning and gardening tools and lend a hand in doing a clean-sweep of 12 blocks in our downtown district. If this sounds like fun to you, give us a call so we can out you on our volunteer list, which helps us determine block assignments for the morning. This a perfect project for youth groups and service clubs or groups. We gather at the 400 block of San Benito Street for check-in and logistics.
If that doesn’t sound like your “cup of tea” you can also come down to the same location from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for our Plant Sale & Garden Expo. We will have beautiful spring trials plants for sale to beautify your home and garden. Everything from annuals, to bedding plants and herbs will be looking for a home to spread their roots and add a pop of color or provide fresh seasoning for culinary delights. This event will also feature more than 10 vendor booths with home and garden products and exciting free demonstrations by local experts.
Come learn how divert your laundry water to your landscape for watering purposes, find out about backyard beekeeping, how to create a beautiful fairy garden that no sprite can resist, how to use native plants in your landscaping, how to plant a beautiful garden pot, get tips on lawn removal and also how to build a bluebird house that will attract these beautiful winged creatures to your yard for your enjoyment.
For a complete class schedule, visit our website: www.downtownhollister.org. Also available that day is a course offered at Gavilan College on Home Composting. Register online for this class at www.gavilance.com. There is a $20 fee for this class.
The Plant Sale and Garden Expo is a fundraiser for the Hollister Downtown Association, a nonprofit organization. Proceeds from this event helps us with our year-round program efforts and activities, including downtown beautification projects such as our hanging basket program.
We invite you to come join us for a wonderful day!
