Hollister Police Chief David Westrick took to Facebook on July 7 to express his thoughts on the shooting of police officers in Dallas during a downtown protest march in the wake of officer-involved shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota, in which suspects were shot and killed. Congressman Sam Farr also released a statement regarding the shooting incidents.
Westrick’s message began with him saying, “I don’t think many in my profession are going to forget this day. I’m pretty dazed still. I don’t understand that level of hate and anger. I never will.
“I’m pretty sure we all bleed the same color of blood,” he continued. “I’m pretty sure we all have mothers and fathers. We are all the same. The only difference is our core beliefs and values.”
Westrick said it’s not “us vs. them or them vs. us, it’s just all of us, together. We are one nation. We, all of us need to start acting like that. Every single life matters.”
Farr, in his statement, said he is “heartbroken, angry and dismayed over the recent shootings in Baton Rouge, Falcon Heights and Dallas.”
“Mass shootings, targeted violence and racial hatred must end immediately and we must stop shooting each other – this is not how a civil society works. This country must strive to regain our sense of inclusion, respect and peace to end senseless killing everywhere.”
