After 22 years at Bolado Park, the Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival will be held this year at the San Benito County Historical Park Aug. 11-14, 2016.
“This is big news for both the Northern California Bluegrass Society and the San Benito County Historical Society,” festival organizer Michael Hall, president of the Northern California Bluegrass Society, told BenitoLink.
The 23rd Annual Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival will be held next door to Bolado Park, just south of  Tres Pinos, and seven miles south of Hollister on Highway 25.
“This is a great place for a bluegrass festival,” Hall said in a press release, which noted that the benefit event had a “wonderful” run at Bolado Park from 1994 through 2015.
“The San Benito County Historical Park offers more attractive performance and camping space than the old venue, with additional shade trees, grass, and other amenities. A brand new stage and electrical system will greet bluegrass fans,” the release noted.
The historical park is managed by the San Benito County Historical Society. It features a historical village with original historic buildings including a jail, schoolhouse, pharmacy, dance hall, saloon, house, town plaza, barns, and more. In addition, the park has a children’s play area, restrooms and showers, and is a bluegrass-friendly venue, organizers said.
The new venue will allow the Good Old Fashioned Festival to accommodate dog lovers and their pets for the first time, while allowing other festival goers to enjoy their usual bluegrass activities undisturbed.
Gates will open Thursday, Aug. 11 at noon, with that day reserved for jamming and socializing. The festival stages will run Friday through Sunday. Free camping is included with an admission ticket. For information about RV hook-ups, call (831) 336-2186.
