The Association of Leadership Programs (ALP) has announced that Brenda Weatherly, Program Manager of the San Benito Leadership Institute (SBLI), has earned the distinguished designation of Certified Community Leadership Practitioner (CCLP). Weatherly is the 44th professional nationwide to achieve this prestigious certification, which recognizes her superb job in the field of community leadership development.

With more than 1,000 Community Leadership Programs (CLPs) operating across the United States, Canada, and beyond, these programs play a vital role in fostering civic engagement, community collaboration, and leadership development. CLPs emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s in response to the growing understanding that strong, engaged local leaders are essential for thriving communities.

The CCLP certification is designed to identify and honor professionals who demonstrate advanced knowledge, strategic insight, and practical expertise in leading and sustaining effective community leadership initiatives.

“Brenda Weatherly is welcomed to the ranks of Certified Community Leadership practitioners!” said Jessie Baginski, PhD, CCLP, and Director, Programs, Association of Leadership Programs]. “The exam is rigorous and demonstrates true mastery within our industry. Brenda’s certification places her among a select group of professionals who are shaping the future of community leadership development.”

In her role with the San Benito Leadership Institute, Weatherly has been instrumental in launching and growing the program since its inception in 2023. Under her leadership, SBLI has strengthened local networks, fostered civic engagement, and cultivated emerging leaders committed to San Benito County’s future.

“Earning this certification reflects my deep commitment to empowering community leaders and strengthening local connections,” said Weatherly. “I’m honored to join a national network of practitioners who share the vision of building vibrant, inclusive, and resilient communities.”
