07/02/2017
Event Time(s):
5:00 to 9:00 pm

July 2 Credo Studio will present its first Sundown Music Series concert with Dayan Kai as the headline act. The doors open at 5:00 pm with the opening acts of Alfredo Avila and Jesse D. Martinez, both talented local musicians. Credo Studio is located at 1 Polk Street in Historic San Juan Bautista, around the corner from the 18th Barrel. This is a wonderful, intimate venue with no standing room allowed. Tickets are $25.00 each please call 831-593-5077 to purchase tickets. If available tickets will also be available at the door.

Kai is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, singer/songwriter, vocalist, and producer with a lifelong dedication to music. Devoted husband and father of three. A true multi-instrumentalist virtuoso with an outstanding voice to match. He is also a Singer/Songwriter, Arranger and Producer with a lifelong commitment to music. Equally versed in Americana, Jazz, World and Rock traditions, Kai’s compositions reflect his vast experiences in the industry as both a soloist and versatile accompanist. While born in Hawaii, he was raised here is in San Juan Bautista as a small child and is a great example of local talent who has achieved success. He even has a song about the joys of being raised in San Juan Bautista.

Tom Miller of Don Quixote fame in Felton, California claims, “Dayan Kai's supersonic voice is big enough to cause a tidal wave one minute and rich enough to turn a choppy sea into a smooth clear lake the next. And then there is the phalanx of instruments that he has mastered and the stunning song craft. Dayan Kai is a talent mightily personified and an absolute joy to experience. “ Do not miss this extraordinary opportunity.

President Barack Obama signed the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) into law on July 22, 2014. The WIOA supersedes the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) and amends the Wagner-Peyser Act, the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act, and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

As with the preceding WIA, the WIOA helps job seekers succeed in the labor market by providing access to employment, education, training, and support services while matching employers with the skilled workers they need to compete in the global economy. In addition, the enactment of WIOA provides a new opportunity to ensure that America’s Job Center of CaliforniaSM (AJCC) locations remain effective and job-driven—responding to the needs of employers and preparing workers for jobs, now and in the future.

Yoga classes at the San Benito County Historical Park, on the second Tuesday evening of the month, has been very successful!  Those coming without experience in Yoga have been pleasantly surprised to find themselves easily fitting into the lesson taught by Robin Pollard during the hour long session.  Robin focuses on limbering and movement exercises coordinated with the 'breath'.  Often during the day, when concentrating on what we're doing, we even forget to breathe fully, and that increases our tension and anxiety.  Yoga, as Robin teaches, brings a mindfulness to your breathing that becomes habit.  If one learned this alone, the classes would be so worth the effort getting there.

The Yoga classes that Robin is teaching are sponsored by R.E.A.C.H. San Benito Parks Foundation and the San Benito County Historical Society at the 'Dance Hall' in San Benito County Historical Park.  At first the inspiration was to celebrate the full moon in April, but the inspiration blossomed into an all-Summer affair.  Getting out to the Historical Park is essential for every county resident to get on their calendar, and then to add the joy of learning a bit of something new, like Yoga, is a total bonus.  It is seldom you will find the chance to get acquainted with this exercise and meditative practice in such an inviting atmosphere, for a donation only!  What a winner!  On a warm summer evening, second Tuesday of the month through the Summer, COME ON OUT!!!  Not ever to be regretted.

Event Time(s):
10:00 a.m. to noon

Interested community members, business owners, and elected officials are invited to join the Pinnacles Gateway Partners for their next meeting in San Juan Bautista on Thursday, July 20th.

The mission of the Pinnacles Gateway Partners is to communicate and work together to protect resources, to inspire visitors, and to foster economic prosperity and community enrichment for the long-term stewardship of Pinnacles National Park and its gateway communities. One of the group's goals is to capitalize on the strategic location of gateway communities as entry points to Pinnacles National Park for the economic benefit of these communities.

The group meets every other month, and rotates meeting location among the gateway communities, including Hollister, King City, San Juan Bautista, Soledad, Greenfield, and Salinas.

The program will include coffee and networking, updates from Pinnacles National Park staff, and a Powerpoint presentation about the Pinnacles Gateway Partners.  There will also be a discussion of progress toward formal local government support of the group and its efforts, and a fun mapping exercise of regional assets.  See attached meeting agenda for details.

In spring 2017, SBFSC is wrapping up a 2-year, $117,000 grant that extended a shaded fuel break in San Juan Canyon by 2.5 miles and provided multiple free chipping services to the residents of San Juan Canyon.
