The California Highway Patrol (CHP), Hollister-Gilroy Area announces a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Sobriety Checkpoint to be held on Friday, September 5, in the unincorporated area of south Santa Clara County. The checkpoint will be operational at approximately 7 p.m. on Sept. 5 and is set to end at 3 a.m. on Sept. 6 If there is inclement weather, the checkpoint will be canceled for safety reasons.
The sobriety checkpoint will be staffed by CHP officers who are trained in the detection of alcohol and/or drug impaired drivers. CHP Drug Recognition Experts, certified by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, will be onsite to provide assessments of drivers suspected of drug impairment. Officers staffing the checkpoint will also be equipped with preliminary alcohol screening devices, which accurately analyze breath samples of suspected drunk drivers.
The exact location of the sobriety checkpoint will be available through the CHP Monterey Communications Center two hours prior to activation by calling (831) 796-2160.
This sobriety checkpoint is made possible through a grant known as Bring Impairment Down. Funding for this grant is made possible by the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
