A coalition of local, state, and national groups is hosting a pollinator habitat planting community action volunteer event on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3, (registration for the event is required). Volunteers will meet at 9:00 a.m. at the San Benito County Historical Park (8300 Hwy 25, Tres Pinos). Volunteers are encouraged to spend the morning helping to prepare the soil for planting by raking, weeding, and invasive plant removal. Once the space has been prepared volunteers will plant the California native pollinator plants. Post-planting activities will include spreading mulch and installing
educational signage.

“The San Benito Resource Conservation District is excited to be part of the team that is bringing this fun and educational volunteer opportunity for all ages to our community. The two pollinator planting days will create multiple lasting benefits – improving habitat for our native bees and butterflies and beautifying one of our County’s “hidden gems” – the San Benito County Historical Park.” said Karminder Brown, Executive Director of the RCD. “We are grateful to California’s Wildlife Conservation Board, the California Association of Conservation Districts, and Keep America Beautiful for funding this important project.”

This community action event is hosted by a team that includes San Benito County, Keep
California Beautiful, Keep America Beautiful®, San Benito Resource Conservation District, Point Blue Conservation Science, San Benito County Historical Society, REACH San Benito Parks Foundation, and Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation., in partnership with California Climate Action Corps, a program of California Volunteers, Office of the Governor. The event will conclude with a free lunch and refreshments.

Through collective action and partnership, volunteers will improve the area’s appearance with native plants. “The benefits of these plants includes encouraging bees and butterflies and these pollinators will lead to have longer term positive impact on the environment, ” said Cecile Carson with Keep California Beautiful.

Volunteers can register through the Golden Volunteers platform at IT.LY/SANBENITO2025 or use the QR code available in the event flyer. For additional information call 831-636-4110 or email sbciwm@sanbenitocountyca.gov .
