Exhibit of watercolors of the Missions to be extended

San Juan Bautista – The run of “Loving Watercolor: Paintings of the California Missions by Nancy Burtch Hauk (1944-2016)” has been extended through the end of May at the Mission San Juan Bautista Museum.

Originally scheduled to conclude at the end of March, the popular exhibit will now run until May 31.

The exhibit features some 20 watercolors and gouaches of Mission San Juan Bautista, Mission San Carlos Borremeo del Rio Carmelo, Mission Neustra Senora de la Soledad, and Mission San Antonio de Pauda.

The artist Nancy Hauk, who made her home in Pacific Grove, often incorporated the interior mission wall art – sometimes referred to as dados and usually created by Native American artists – into exterior scenes of the mission structures, the work highlighting the early painting of often forgotten artists.

Central to the exhibition is a painting of Mission San Juan Bautista using decorative interior art in a scene depicting night and day. Giclees and cards reproducing the scene are

available in the museum gift shop.

Mission San Juan Bautista is located at 406 Second Street in San Juan Bautista.

The exhibit is open Mondays through Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
