How to Safely Pile Burn Field Workshop

February 26, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join the Central Coast Prescribed Burn Association (calpba.org) and the
San Benito Resource Conservation District (rcdsanbenito.org) for a workshop and demonstration of how to safely build and burn vegetation piles. Residential pile burning is an important tool for homeowners and creating defensible space in the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI). Pile burning is also a useful tool for large landowners who want to manage vegetation. We will review aspects of pile burning covered during the Part I webinar in January: building the pile, necessary permits, and safety. We will also discuss the basics of defensible space and ways to create it with care for our coastal California ecology. Then, we’ll provide hands on experience burning piles. If you missed the Part I webinar in January, please watch the recording prior to attending the field workshop: Watch a recording of the Part I webinar here.
