Just over three weeks after election day, the San Benito County Elections Office expects the final ballot counting to be done by Thursday evening, finalizing the results in a general election in which nearly 80 percent of registered voters participated locally.

The latest unprocessed ballot report, released on Tuesday, Nov. 29, showed just 175 ballots remained to be processed after 22,394 had been processed and counted since election day. Five of those unprocessed ballots are of the vote-by-mail variety, 50 are provisional, and 120 are damaged or unreadable.

Nearly three quarters of San Benito County voters cast a ballot by mail.

Despite the continuous counting of unprocessed ballots since Nov. 8, few results are different three weeks later than the those announced on election night. BenitoLink will provide an update on all local results once the Elections Office certifies them.
