Parishioners from the Sacred Heart/St. Benedict’s Catholic parish and others spent part of Good Friday morning carrying a cross between the two churches in an annual tradition that commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.
The walk, recalling when Jesus was compelled to carry his cross to the place of his death, precedes weekend celebrations ending with Mass on Easter Sunday, when Christians believe Jesus rose from the dead.
In the photo here provided by Raul Ceja, his father — 42-year Hollister resident Raul Sr. — is shown taking his turn carrying the cross. Ceja attends Mass every Sunday with his wife, Imelda.
