After reports of gunfire on the 800 block of Stallion Way in Hollister on March 26, San Benito County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence, leading to the arrest of three people and the recovery of multiple firearms.

Deputies were dispatched around 8 p.m. after receiving calls reporting the sound of gunfire in a neighborhood.

“It was a house party, and there were multiple people there,” Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Russell Brown said. “But we were only able to identify and arrest three individuals involved.”

As deputies arrived on scene, Brown said they called on those inside the residence to leave. However, according to Brown, the situation quickly became more complex when occupants closed the garage door and turned off the lights.

The Sheriff’s Department said several people fled the scene as deputies made contact, and three adult males who left the residence were detained.

Initial reports indicated that gunfire had occurred, though investigators believe the shots were fired into the air rather than at a specific target. No homes, vehicles or surrounding property were reported to have been struck, and no injuries were reported.

Deputies issued a temporary shelter-in-place for nearby residents as a precaution while securing the area.

“A shelter-in-place was implemented out of caution, but at no point was the broader community at risk,” Brown said.

The three people arrested were identified as Javier Fonseca Lopez, 38, Rui Darosa, 54, and Andres Garcia Duran, 43. Lopez faces multiple charges, including negligent discharge of a firearm, destruction of evidence, conspiracy and resisting or delaying arrest. Darosa and Duran were taken into custody on charges related to resisting or delaying arrest. Duran is also facing a conspiracy charge.

Deputies obtained a search warrant for the residence, where they recovered four firearms, multiple magazines and several boxes of ammunition.

While the incident involved gunfire, Brown said there has been no confirmation that alcohol or drugs were involved.
