To balance school populations and address enrollment increases due to new housing developments in progress, the Board of Trustees announces the following changes to school configurations effective for the 2024-2025 school year.

1. Sunnyslope School:

Sunnyslope will become a TK-5 school beginning in August 2024.  All middle school students currently enrolled at Sunnyslope will be transferred to Maze Middle School.  Sunnyslope School is the feeder school for Maze Middle School.

Rationale: Although the 6th grade at Sunnyslope is popular, the enrollment for 7th and 8th grades is less popular and the enrollment is greatly reduced. The State of California has implemented new guidelines regarding Transitional Kindergarten (TK) enrollment. As the TK birthdates get younger, we will need to make space within the district for a higher enrollment of TK.  Sunnyslope will be the overflow school for TK enrollment.

Sunnyslope will also be the new hub for the Migrant Resource Center and staff. The Migrant program currently utilizes two rooms at Sunnyslope for materials: a clothing closet and supplies. This will allow for the Migrant program to have their office staff in proximity to their materials and supplies.

The vacated Migrant Resource Center space at HDLA will become an HDLA Wellness Center during the 2024-2025 school year.

2. Cerra Vista School:

Cerra Vista will become a TK-5 school beginning in August 2024. All middle school students currently enrolled at Cerra Vista will be transferred to either Rancho San Justo or Maze Middle School depending on their home address and school boundaries. Cerra Vista is the feeder school for both middle schools.

Rationale: Cerra Vista will require additional classroom space to accommodate the housing developments in progress within the Cerra Vista school boundaries.   This will allow all new middle school students moving into the Cerra Vista area to enroll at Maze or Rancho San Justo and maintain the vacated Cerra Vista classroom space for new TK-5th grade students.

3. AAA:

AAA will phase out one classroom per grade level. Each year, Calaveras will gain a classroom.

Rationale: The developments on Buena Vista Road will produce new student enrollments for Calaveras. Calaveras is currently impacted.  This change will allow all currently enrolled AAA students to continue in the AAA program. The projection below may be sped up or altered depending on needs and or future Board decisions.

The grade level configuration for AAA is projected to be:

2023-2024

  • 5th grade – 1 classroom
  • 6th grade – 2 classrooms
  • 7th grade – 2 classrooms
  • 8th grade – 2 classrooms

2024-2025

  • 5th grade  – 1 classroom
  • 6th grade – 1  classroom         +1 classroom at Calaveras
  • 7th grade  – 2 classrooms

2025-2026

  • 5th grade – 1 classroom
  • 6th grade – 1 classroom
  • 7th grade – 1 classroom          +1 classroom at Calaveras
  • 8th grade – 2 classrooms

2026-2027

  • 5th grade – 1 classroom
  • 6th grade – 1 classroom
  • 7th grade – 1 classroom
  • 8th grade – 1 classroom          +1 classroom at Calaveras

We understand that questions may arise regarding these changes.  More information and town hall meetings will be forthcoming to provide you with the most updated information.
