The San Benito County Elections Office reported that 1,300 ballots remain to be processed 17 days after the Nov. 8 election. The next update on the vote count is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 29.
A total of 21,304 ballots had been processed and counted as of 5 p.m. on Nov. 23, with 465 vote-by-mail ballots, 715 provisional ballots and 120 damaged or unreadable ballots remaining to be processed. Just under 75 percent of San Benito County voters do so by mail or are in mail ballot-only precincts.
In the unprocessed ballot report released this week, the elections office noted that every vote-by-mail ballot must have the voter's signature signature verified, precinct sorted and the ballot reviewed for electronic readability.
