Danielle Techner is San Benito High School’s new Sports Medicine teacher and athletic trainer.

Techner, from Santa Cruz, graduated from San Francisco State University after spending her freshman year in college in Hawaii and her sophomore year in Bridgewater, Mass. Techner still lives in Santa Cruz and commutes to Hollister. She said she decided to teach at SBHS when presented the opportunity to spread her knowledge and get the opportunity to help students.

Techner has been an athletic trainer for four years.

“I like to make an athlete healthy and watch them play,” she said. This year is Techner’s first-year teaching. The best part of teaching, she said, “Is when students are applying what they learned to their everyday life.”

Senior Morgann Leslie, one of Techner’s students, said the first-year teacher “is doing great. I’m learning a lot. There is not one thing that I would change from the way she is teaching us.”

Senior Joselyn Rosas, another Sports Medicine student, said Techner is doing a good job. “I like how Ms. Techner teaches. She really explains the concepts and works well with us students,” Rosas said. “I look forward to learning more new things throughout the school year.”
