To my friends and neighbors in San Benito County,
There is a unique responsibility carried by the County Clerk-Recorder’s Office. We are entrusted with your most significant moments: the records of your births, the celebration of your marriages, the deeds to your homes, and the protection of your vote. These are
not merely administrative duties; they are the foundation of a stable, secure, and free society.
In 2022, I asked for the privilege of serving as a steward of these records. Today, as I announce my candidacy for re-election, I do so with deep gratitude and a clear focus on the future. The responsibility you placed in me is significant, and I carry it with the seriousness it deserves.
The true character of a community is revealed not on its easiest days, but on its most difficult. In September 2023, our department faced an unprecedented challenge when an act of arson destroyed our building and threatened the continuity of our operations. In that moment, there was no room for hesitation or division.
Together, with a dedicated team of county employees who live in our communities and share our values, we chose to rebuild with purpose. Within ninety days, we fully restored services and successfully conducted the 2024 Primary Election without issue.
That effort demonstrated what I have always believed: the democratic process in San
Benito County is resilient, secure, and unwavering.
Over the past four years, my guiding principle has been Innovation through Accountability. Even in the face of significant budget reductions and staffing challenges, our office has delivered results recognized at both the state and federal levels:
Protecting Homeownership: We implemented a free Property Fraud Protection
program to safeguard homeowners – particularly seniors – from increasingly
sophisticated scams. Protecting your home is our highest priority.
Radical Transparency: We launched the nation’s first Election Ride-Along
program, allowing any citizen to observe ballot collection and security firsthand.
Fiscal Stewardship: Despite budget cuts, we streamlined operations and
modernized the Recorder’s Office to ensure San Benito County remains a leader
in innovation without increasing the burden on taxpayers.
I am deeply grateful to the residents who make this work possible: our poll workers, community volunteers, high school students, and every voter who takes the time to exercise their constitutional rights. While no office is perfect, we are committed to listening, and your feedback continues to drive our improvement.
To my family, my fiancée, and my closest friends: you have witnessed the long hours and the weight of this responsibility firsthand. Your support makes this service possible.
Ensuring equal access to fair, secure elections is not just my job; it is my passion and my mission. I love this county – from the historic streets of San Juan Bautista to the hills of Panoche and the neighborhoods of Hollister. I invite you to reach out, share your thoughts, and talk with me about your vision for our community.
I would be honored to earn your trust and your vote once again.
With respect and humility,
Francisco Diaz
