After using Quest Diagnostics’s services for more than 15 years, local resident Will Sutton says he plans to travel to the Gilroy site after the Hollister site in Safeway closes on Sept. 22.
“I hope they can find a location in Hollister,” he said. “Because Hazel Hawkins hasn’t been this good.”
A Safeway spokesperson said the decision to end the partnership with Quest was to “better support the growing needs of our pharmacy customers and to enhance the overall service experience.”
Sutton, who took the opportunity during his recent visit to the lab to purchase a few grocery items, said he liked the convenience of its current location, that Quest staff are always “gentle and kind,” and that appointments are easy to make.
On NextDoor, a social media platform, community members are echoing Sutton’s sentiments saying they prefer Quest over other providers. Users said they are “sad” it is closing while others said that it was a “bummer” and “disappointing.”
There was a platform user, however, that spoke well of the hospital’s lab services, saying they “are pretty good,” while warning people not to go on Mondays or a day after a holiday without explaining why.
Quest Diagnostics has not responded to BenitoLink’s request for comment. Only a sign on the site’s entrance notifies patients of the permanent closure.
With one less option for the community, other providers include Hazel Hawkins Memorial Hospital and LabCorp located inside Walgreens.
