The Superior Court of San Benito County recently celebrated Law Day by hosting a competition that invited high school students to showcase their understanding of democracy through essays or artistic submissions. The event, held during the week of Law Day in 2024, aimed to foster an appreciation for civic engagement while recognizing the talents and efforts of the participating students.

Sophia Rodriguez, a 9th-grade student from Hollister High School, emerged as the grand overall winner for her exceptional submission. Sophia’s insightful exploration of the theme “Voices of Democracy” not only earned her a Certificate of Recognition but also a prestigious scholarship, affirming her potential as a future leader in civic discourse.

Armando Barragan, a 10th-grade student from Hollister High School, was recognized as the competition’s runner-up. Armando’s unique entry impressed the judges and secured him a scholarship as well, reflecting his commitment to understanding and advocating for democratic programs.

The ceremony, held at the Superior Court, celebrated the students’ dedication to exploring the complexities of democracy and the role of law in ensuring its preservation.
