San Juan Bautista’s Mary Velasco Sellen Senior Center is set to launch its fundraising campaign on Aug. 7 to secure its first permanent home.
The event, scheduled for 2 p.m. at the St. Francis Retreat, will include lunch and a silent auction. Tickets are $50.
Since opening last year, the nonprofit has been using Casa Maria at the San Juan Bautista Mission to host its weekly Wednesday lunches.
Board member Cesar Flores told BenitoLink the ultimate goal is to raise $4.4 million to build a center to better serve local seniors.
Flores said the preferred site they have in mind—though not yet formally requested—is a lot in front of the San Juan Bautista Library on Second Street.
