Update: July 30, 11:20 a.m. The tsunami advisory for the parts of the Central Coast including Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties has been lifted, however, it could be reinstated.

Following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake and numerous aftershocks off the east coast of Russia the National Weather Service has issued a tsunami advisory for the west coast and tsunami warning for Hawai’i. People living near oceans and bays should stay away from the water and be ready to move inland and/or to higher ground.

According to other news outlets the first wave could hit the Central Coast at around 12:15 a.m. July 30. BenitoLink has not verified this information.
