A 17-year-old San Benito High School student, Giovanni Fidel Gonzalez, died Saturday, July 23 after a fatal motorcycle collision on the 2500 block of Highway 25, the San Benito County Sheriff’s Department confirmed Monday.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m., according to Detective Sergeant Tom Keylon.
Gonzalez, who went by “Gio,” would have been a senior at San Benito High School this fall. SBHS Principal Adrian Ramirez shared the news with school staff via email on Sunday, noting that Gonzalez’s family has set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral expenses.
The message on the GoFundMe page says:
“On July 23rd, my 17-year old brother Giovanni Gonzalez passed away in a head-on collision motorcycle accident. A lot of you may have known him as Gio, always with a smile on his face, making jokes, and making the best situation out of anything. If you guys would like to donate any money, anything would help out and would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking your time to read this, my family and I appreciate all the help very much. R.I.P. Gio, 1999-2016.”
The sheriff’s department said Monday morning that more information about the accident would be forthcoming.
