County Clerk-Recorder and Registrar of Voters Francisco Diaz said turnout for the special election was 43% as of 7 p.m. on election day. The only item on the ballot is Prop. 50, which will decide whether voters want to change the state’s Congressional district maps by temporarily taking that power away from a redistricting commission.

Diaz said 39.3% of the ballots were submitted by mail.
