24th Annual Red Ribbon Run

24th Annual Red Ribbon Race held by San Benito County Behavioral Health to curb Alcohol and drug abuse

The Red Ribbon Race was held in beautiful Historic San Juan. Runners gathered in the morning fog for a 5k and a 10k race.

Participants included runners from the Salinas and Pajaro Valleys as well as many local participants.

The race is hosted by San Benito County Behavioral Services to give San Benito County residents a healthy choice to build into their lifestyle. The age range of the runners was from elementary school students to some runners who have been acquainted with gray hair for a while. There was an atmosphere of support as participants crossed the finish line.

In the 10k, the Women's Overall Winner was Carrie Fosdick of Hollister with a time of 47:35.5 and the Men's Overall Winner was John Waterman of Watsonville whose time was 40:12.2

In the 5k, the Women's Overall Winner was Jocelyn Sosa,15, with a time of  20:13.8, and the Men's Overall Winner was Javier Garcia, 18, with a time of 17:35.8.

There were awards for the top three finishers in each age category.

The 5k race began at the San Juan Bautista Community Center, while the 10k began at the LIvery Stable at the San Juan Bautista State Historical Park. Both races finished in front of the Plaza Hotel.
