On Saturday, June 27, the Los Padrinos Car Club of San Juan Bautista will host its eighth annual car show in the downtown area of the City of History. Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the event will feature custom and classic cars and bicycles, as well as live music performed by the Cadillac Jack Band, three food booths and nine merchandise vendors, and a raffle for several prizes, including a 40-inch flat-screen television.
Admission to the family-friendly event is free.
There’s still lots of space available for owners who wish to showcase their vehicles or bicycles, while competing for a variety of trophies and plaques. The entry fee for car owners is $30 (and includes a commemorative t-shirt) or $25 without the shirt. The cost for bicycle owners is $20 with T-shirt or $15 without. Registration can be paid in advanced or on the day of the event.
Founded in 2008 by a handful of San Juan Bautista, Hollister, and Gilroy residents, “Los Padrinos is a non-profit committed to maintaining the lowrider mystique, while raising funds for local charities,” according to the website, sanjuanbautistaca.com.
Its annual car show is the club’s primary fundraiser. The beneficiaries of this year’s event will include, the San Juan Bautista Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 6359, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and an individual or organization to be determined later.
Though small by most car club standards, Los Padrinos is committed to producing a first-rate car show. Its president, Ralph Duarte, said he is excited for Saturday, and he expects a larger turnout than last year.
Reflecting on words of thanks written to the club from a 2014 beneficiary, Duarte explained by email that, “receiving a letter like this makes the work we do worth it.”
