The Hollister Heat held its Opening Ceremonies on Mar. 8. More than 800 people attended the event at the Veterans Memorial Park. The weather was chilly, but everyone had a great time.
Jose Rodriguez coaches the Lady Wolves team. He has coached Little League for over 10 years and Hollister Heat softball for three, starting when his son began playing in 2004.

“I enjoyed coaching him throughout the years,” he said, “and from then, I just kept coaching. I love the sport, and I love teaching at this young age. It’s where you develop the core skills, and l love watching them develop throughout the year.”
Rodriquez said there have only been four practices, but those practices, he said, “kept the girls engaged, moving and developing new skills.”

Aubrey Tobia and Mila Estrada both started playing when they were around four. “I am enjoying playing and practice has been very good,” Tobia said.

Lucky Shamrocks coach Morgan Espinosa is in her first year with the Heat.

“My daughter’s been playing for the last three seasons,” she said, “and this year they were looking for another coach. They asked me to do it and I thought, ‘Why not? It’d be fun to spend more time with her.”
Espinosa said she got lucky this year with the players on the team.
“These girls are dedicated little seven year olds,” she said. Pretty much everybody on the team has been a real great player so far.”

Annie Silver is coaching the Blue Dragons for the first time this year, but she has coached with Little League before.
“I grew up playing softball,” she said. My youngest is starting, and she wanted me to coach. I love being out on the field with the team. The practices are going well, besides a few rained out ones, but the girls are having a good time. We’re playing games, running basses and they love it.”
