Lois joined BenitoLink in its formative years, in 2014, as it moved from its fiscal sponsor, the Community Foundation for San Benito County, to establish itself as a separate 501c(3) nonprofit with its own board.
“Lois Locci was so critical to our early success as a new nonprofit organization and we benefit every day still from her hard work as a member of our voluntary board,” said BenitoLink Executive Director Leslie David.

Lois joined the advisory, then founding, board whose members included Sandy Rose, Jim Parker, Adam Breen, Julie Morris, Jeff Jeffers, Susan Schwabacher Modic, Kathy Flores, and David. She turned her attention to the area of governance, processes, structures and rules for the young nonprofit. Lois made sure the nonprofit had bylaws, and both board and employee handbooks. She kept us current with new laws and updated all legally required materials.
“Lois was passionate about making sure all the residents of this county have access to information that could help improve their quality of life, navigate health emergencies or prepare to vote,” said David. “She was a big believer in ‘knowledge is power’ and was driven to make sure the Spanish speaking community had equal access to information.”

Lois was raised in San Jose and considered herself a “Silicon Valley escapee.” She taught at De Anza college and was chair of the UC Extension Education Department. Later she served a four-year term as a trustee for the Gavilan Joint Community College District. She was proud to be on the board and make sure the Hollister campus progressed under her watch.
An educator and administrator at heart, Lois was instrumental in getting BenitoLink to where it is today. “She spent countless hours working with me on grants, making them better and willingly dealing with the endless details and rules small businesses like ours deals with,” said David. Lois found her volunteer work rewarding and through her passion, she put BenitoLink in a strong position to continue serving the community she loved.
