The Superior Court of San Benito County has extended the deadline to apply to the San Benito County Civil Grand Jury to Friday, May 8, 2026. The civil grand Jury is an historic institution and serves an important role in local society. Serving on the civil grand jury gives residents an exciting and unique opportunity to have a significant impact on local government. The 19-member civil grand jury is an independent body empowered to investigate operations of city and county governments as well as other tax-supported agencies and special districts—responding also to citizens’ complaints on government issues.
To qualify to be on the grand jury, you must be a United States citizen, at least 18 years of age, have working knowledge of the English language, and have resided in the county of San Benito for at least one year. Eligible county residents are encouraged to visit the Court’s Website at www.sanbenito.courts.ca.gov/civil-grand-jury to apply electronically. Applications are also available at the courthouse located at 450 Fourth Street in Hollister.
Individuals selected for the grand civil jury service must make a time commitment of an average of 15 – 20 hours per week for 12 months. The term of the 2026-2027 Civil Grand Jury will commence on July 1, 2026, and end on June 30, 2027.
