KQKE — "The Quake" — will be the call letters for the low-power FM radio station expected to hit the airwaves in San Benito County by next summer. It's the latest step forward for organizers who are working with the Community Media Access Partnership (CMAP) to bring a 100-watt station to Hollister; likely broadcasting from atop Vista Park Hill downtown.

A few community meetings have been held so far as volunteers are working to form planning teams to help the station become broadcast-ready. The next planning meetings are scheduled for Nov. 25 and Dec. 9 at a time and location to be announced. Meanwhile, organizers continue to work with the city of Hollister to lease a vacant building there to serve as the station's offices and broadcast center. KQKE is also planning to have a float in the Lights On Parade through downtown Hollister in November.

Volunteers are still being sought to serve on the following teams: programming, broadcast tech, information technology, vision/policy/bylaws, construction and building, marketing communications, legal, financial, fundraising, board search and a steering committee. The community is encouraged to offer suggestions about programming, including developing ideas for shows and hosting them. More information is available on The Quake website and the San Benito County Community Radio Facebook page.
