Hollister City Manager Bill Avera participated in the opening ceremony as part of a tandem skydive.

The sky above the Hollister Airport was full of wild and fantastic activity as the 5th annual Hollister Airshow unfolded over the past weekend.

Several fearless aerobatics pilots, including Vicky Benzing, Spenser Suderman, Dr. Frank Donnelly (known as Dr. D), and Jacquie B, kept the audience in awe with their loops, vertical rolls, turns, spins, and other death-defying maneuvers.

Warbird pilots John Collver, Kevin Walker, and John Ward demonstrated the power and solemnity of aircraft formerly used in combat or training by the U.S. military.

Also on hand were Vance Breese, flying his unique experimental gyroplane, the Air Force Reserve with its 10,000 horsepower jet dragster, motorcycle stunt performer Jason Pullen, and the skydiving instructors of Skydive Hollister Sky. In addition to the aerial performances, the Hollister Airshow had many vintage airplanes on display.

A special part of the air show was a tribute to the late Eddie Andreini, a popular air show performer, who was slated to take part in this year’s air show, as he had in past years. Mr. Andreini died on May 4 when his biplane crashed while performing a maneuver at the Thunder Over Solano air show at the Travis Air Base in Fairfield.
