The National Weather Service released a statement Thursday saying that a series of systems will being rainfall to the region over the next five days. The first system moving through the region through the overnight hours into Friday had light rain expected.
A similar system will move through late Friday into Saturday, with most urban locations expected to pick up less than a third of an inch. A third, and more powerful, system will bring widespread rain to the entire area starting Sunday evening and continuing through Tuesday evening, with "ample moisture" associated with it, according to the weather service.
The system will help produce rainfall amounts of 1 to 2-and-a-half inches for almost all urban locations with the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall at times. Southerly winds will be on the increase on Sunday, with local gusts over 30 mph likely during the late afternoon and evening hours. Drier weather is expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
The weather service encourages people to check storm drains and gutters and make any pre-storm preparation now, especially if they are near streams, small rivers, or low-lying locations that are prone to minor flooding.
