Anzar High School's football team will host its first home game this week, and the contest against Crystal Springs Uplands is set for 6 p.m. Thursday at Barragan Field.

Anzar (1-2) is coming off two road losses against two of the tougher 8-man teams in the area (Stuart Hall and Pinewood) and looks to turn things around against Crystal Springs. The Hawks opened the season with a victory over Kings Christian, and Shandon canceled a scheduled home game for Anzar in Week 2.

Following this week's Thursday game, the Anzar team is scheduled to host a fundraiser car wash from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday at San Juan School. All proceeds go toward basic expenses for the program, which must raise more than $12,000 to cover costs like transportation, equipment, lighting and referees for home games. The team will request at minimum $10 donation for vehicles at the car wash.

Kollin Kosmicki is District 2 Supervisor in San Benito County.
