Applications are now open for two upcoming art-related opportunities through the San Benito County Arts Council.
The first, the Arts Express! Grant Program, supports cultural and artistic growth, fosters art accessibility and equity, and promotes cultural diversity in San Benito County. This program provides support to local artists, art groups, and art and cultural organizations through quick and easy mini-grants up to $1,000. Applicants may request funding for the creation of new work, exhibitions and presenting, arts in education programs, community outreach, or to support organizational capacity.
Grant requirements include that applicants must be based in San Benito County. Project activities shall reflect artistic practices and traditions in the visual and performing arts (i.e. music, dance, theater, fine art, traditional arts, etc.), as well as demonstrate quality, originality and creativity through artistic production. All projects shall promote cultural awareness, diversity and inclusion.
The 2018 Arts Express! grantees include: El Teatro Campesino, Kollin Kosmicki of San Benito Live, San Juan School’s Dual Language Immersion Program, local artist Phillip Ray Orabuena, Spring Grove School and San Benito Stage Company.

Applications are also now open to artists of all media for the San Benito County Arts Council's annual Open Studios Art Tour which will take place April 13-14, 2019. All artists based in San Benito County are encouraged to submit an application.
Open Studios is an annual self-guided tour of artist studios throughout San Benito County. The weekend Art Tour is preceded by a Preview Exhibition at the ARTspace ANNEX at 217 Fifth St. in downtown Hollister and celebrated with an Opening Reception on Friday, March 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The tour, which featured more than 30 local artists and artisans in 2018, showcases works in painting, photography, pottery and ceramics, stained-glass, jewelry, and more. Open Studios is a great way for locals and out of town visitors to meet the artists, view and purchase original works of art, and learn more about the processes of art-making, as well as a great social, professional, and networking opportunity for local artists.
