What can an artist create in a piece measuring 7 inches by 9 inches or smaller? Would you like to talk to a local artist about their inspiration or technique? Would you like to win an original piece of artwork in time for the holiday season? If so, consider attending the San Benito County Arts Council event “Small Works: An Exhibition and Raffle of Small Scale Artwork” on Nov. 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is a fundraiser for the San Benito Arts Council to continue to fund art programs in San Benito County that will take place at the ARTspace ANNEX located at 217 Fifth St. in downtown Hollister.

With over 30 artists represented, attendees will see examples of mixed media, stained glass, photography, digital art, ceramics, abstract figurative wood cuts and more. All work is donated by artists with ties to San Benito County.

Hollister resident Mike Self contributed a piece of art alongside his wife Marisa Duran. Seeing art as a way for people learn more about their community, Self encourages people to attend Friday’s event.

“It’s a good opportunity to discover artists,” Self said. “Art is a release for a lot of people. It can spread messages about what people value in the community.”

Contributing artist Heidi Jumper, who is also the Arts Council’s marketing and brand manager, said, “Involvement in the arts is essential to help the community come together and connect.”

In addition to being able to talk to local artists, there will also be a chance of winning one or more pieces of art on display.

Entertainment and refreshments will be provided by the Arts Council, with raffle tickets available to participants looking to take home an original piece of art. Tickets are available from the Arts Council now through the end of the event. They’re $5 each, or five tickets for $20. After purchasing, participants will place their tickets into the box of whichever piece or pieces they hope to win at the event.

Featured artists at Friday’s event will include Allison Barnes, Keith Bonner, Sandra Braga, Vickie Burke, Kent Child, Cindy Couling, Kati D’Amore, Sally Diggory, Marisa Duran, Larry Gerbrandt, Michaela Graves, Heidi Jumper, Sylas Jumper, Ana Kahana, Dustin Kinsley, Phil Leonard, Paul Loughridge, Francene Markle, Andrea McCann, Margie Minogue, Lisa Robinson Photography, Suenia Romero, Louise Roy, Dylan Sandstrom, Barbara Scott, Mike Self, Sarah Sendejas, Maureen Serafini, Kathleen Sheridan, Dane Skow and Bryan West.

“It’s going to be a good time,” Jumper said. “That’s why they call it a party!”
