On Thursday, March 8, San Benito County leaders and residents gathered for an open house celebration for Assembly member Anna Caballero's Hollister Satellite Office. Located on 365 4th Street in Downtown Hollister, the Satellite Office will be staffed on a monthly basis and appointments can be made with Assembly member Caballero.

Hollister Councilmember Mickie Luna and Hollister City Clerk Christine Black were also recognized for their contributions to the community.

“It was an honor joining San Benito County residents Thursday night at our Hollister Satellite Office Open House,” Caballero said. “We have great leaders like Council member Luna and Ms. Black, and I wanted to commemorate their recent awards and longtime service, improving the quality of life for Hollister residents.”

In December, Luna received an honorary doctorate degree from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. The Honorary Doctorate Degree award is given to people who have been designated as distinguished leaders in the world and are positive examples to society. She has been an active community volunteer for many years, including a serving on the national board for the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC), a national organization that advocates for advancing the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States.

"It is legislators like Assemblywoman Caballero that can bring our community together no matter the party affiliation, elected and community members came together and we all had a very good time," Luna said. "Everyone truly cares about our community and we can work together in improving services and our local economics. I appreciate the opportunity our Asseemblywoman provided in bringing us together."

Black recently received the designation of Master Municipal Clerk by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, Inc. In order to receive the title, Black completed educational requirements and was required to show "significant" contributions to her Hollister community and the state of California.

"I am very humbled and thankful to Assembly Member Anna Caballero for honoring me.  I will work hard to serve our community with integrity and hope to continue a trusted relationship with our community," Black said.

"I am truly grateful to be working with Council Member Mickie Solorio Luna who was honored by Assembly Member Anna Caballero last night for her humanitarian work and for receiving her Doctor Honoris Causa.  I enjoy it when I am able to engage Mickie in stories on her life, because every one of them is very inspiring.  She really is an amazing woman," she continued.

With the event being attended by community leaders from all over San Benito County including four San Benito County supervisors, four Hollister city council members, two San Juan Bautista council members and numerous other officials Caballero stated she would like to emphasize communication between local government agencies.

She said, “With issues like the Highway 25 closure by Union Pacific this week, we need to emphasize cooperation and communication between all levels of government. I worked with local elected officials and state agencies to reduce four peak traffic disruptions to only one on Wednesday morning. I will continue fighting for our communities.”
